Grant Description:
In 2018-2019, Hingham Education Foundation generously funded the HPS “Code Red” initiative, which supported a year-long professional development series designed to build capacity of K-5 technology fellows in the area of digital literacy and computer science. The following grant proposal complements the work of the elementary Code Red initiative by developing similar technology leadership amongst Gr. 6-12 educators. The particular emphasis of the secondary technology professional development initiative will be to support on-going district work in the area of universal design for learning (UDL) by leveraging innovative uses of technology to best differentiate and personalize instruction for all learners. The initiative will also build district capacity in emerging areas of EdTech including VR, AI, and GPT.
The proposed year-long training will recruit sixteen secondary educators (8 per building from HMS & HHS, recruited across content-area departments). The work will commence in the Summer of 2023, during which time Gr. 6-12 Technology Integration Fellows will participate in coursework through Ed Tech Teacher. Course modules include: Amplifying UDL and Differentiation with Ed Tech, Show Your Work: Equipping Students to be Content Creators, Next Level PBL: Enhancing Project Based Learning with EdTech, Advanced Uses of Google for Education, Expressing Student Work Through Digital Storytelling, Powerful Learning Experiences Through Artificial Intelligence and GPT in Schools. After completing the Ed Tech Teacher modules, fellows will then meet for a full day in-person summer workshop with a Technology Integration trainer to more deeply explore the use of Ed Tech to support Universal Design for Learning. During the school year, additional professional development will occur during a full-day sub-release workshop and six 1-hour after school meetings. The focus of the school year workshop time will be for fellows to prepare modules to share with peers during department meetings, faculty meetings, and early release workshops.
