Grant Description:

This grant would be used to fund summer workshop time for Grade 5 teacher professional development regarding our new social studies curriculum. The updated DESE History & Social Sciences Curriculum Framework outlines a very ambitious chronological survey of early U.S. history. While some of the content is unchanged from the current curriculum, in particular there is a new topic on the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the modern civil rights movement that will be brand new to our teachers. This will require some intensive professional development to teach not only the new content, but also on the new inquiry-based skills and civics standards outlined by DESE.

12 teachers (all who teach Grade 5 social studies) x 8 hrs each x $45.08 = $4,327.68
